BMS Wind Ensemble

Information & Assignments

To All Grade Seven and Eight Band Members and Parents;

Welcome Back!

                I hope that you all had a fun and restful summer and are ready to get back to work.  We have a very busy year ahead, so dust off you instrument and get ready to practice.
            Students should sit in the seats that they are assigned on the first day of school.  This is based upon your individual performance from the previous school year or where Mr. C thinks you will be most productive.  Students are required to sit in the same seats every day unless otherwise directed… no exceptions. The assigned seating is simply to facilitate getting started as quickly as possible and to help provide for a more structured rehearsal setting.
Students are required to come to class prepared every day.  We will begin the year using the Essential Elements Book 2 (Red) which most students already own. In addition to the sheet music, students will be required to purchase the Essential Elements Book 3 (Green) from me, $16.00 for percussion and $8.00 for all other instruments.  I will be selling the Essential Elements Book 3 beginning in November.  Not having a lesson book will greatly impact your students ability in keeping up with the rest of the band and completing practice assignments.  Later in the year, all band members may be tested on their parts, book assignments and scales.  At that time seating may change, based on the results of the testing.
            Quarterly band grades are based on a number of requirements.  All students must be prepared for band daily.  Points will be deducted from the quarter grade for lack of music or your instrument.  Students are responsible for keeping their band music neat and organized. Every year many students often come to band class without their music therefore they could not participate in class.  Points will be deducted from the student’s final quarterly average if they consistently come to class without their music.  Every so often Mr. C may check the music of a student in order to enforce this policy.  At anytime before a concert students may ask Mr. C for a replacement if they have lost their original copy of music.
            The remaining portions of your grade will be determined by concert attendance and daily classroom performance.  Please keep in mind that band meets everyday and is considered a full credit class, similar to math and science.
            Concert attire will be the same as last year all students are expected to wear the new navy blue BMS Band Shirts with black pants and dress shoes NO SNEAKERSStudents who do not conform to the concert dress code will not be allowed to participate in the concert and will receive a failing grade for the quarter.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call the school 568-1320

Good Luck and Start Practicing!
